NIRMAN organizes a one-day training workshop for the Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) – Sponsored and Supported by NIEPMD, Chennai

NIRMAN Foundation, Nawada, organized a one-day training workshop on 2nd June 2019 for the Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) on various issues related to the empowerment of persons with disabilities. The training workshop was sponsored and fully supported by the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai. NIEPMD comes under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India and serves as a national resource center for empowerment of persons with Multiple Disabilities. More than 100 Anganwadi Workers participated in the training workshop along with members of the local communities conducted at Sumangalam Hall, Patel Nagar, Nawada.

The workshop was conducted by Ms. Kumari Vaishnavi, President of Viklang Adhikar Manch, Bihar and Mr. Deepak Kumar, Secretary of Viklang Adhikar Manch, Bihar. Ms. Upma Rani from SAKSHAM, Nawada also addressed those present about facilities available at the center being run by the State Government. Mr. Deepak Kumar first explained the 21 types of disabilities as identified under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Ms. Vaishnavi then explained the eligibility and process for getting a certificate and later discussed various government programs for the welfare of persons with disabilities. AWWs were requested to spread awareness about these issues, programs, and benefits among persons with disabilities as well as their families and help them avail these benefits as well. Mr. Deepak and Ms. Vaishnavi also promised their full support to AWWs in case they need any assistance.

The workshop saw active participation from all those present with healthy discussion on various issues.
