2nd ONE DAY BLOCK LEVEL TRAINING PROGRAM FOR EMPOWERMENT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES at Saksham Kendra, Block Office Compound, Hisua, Nawada

The second one-day Block-level training workshop was conducted on 3rd August 2019 covering various issues related to the empowerment of persons with disabilities. The training workshop was organized, sponsored and fully supported by the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai in association with NIRMAN Foundation, Nawada. NIEPMD comes under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India and serves as a national resource center for the empowerment of persons with Multiple Disabilities. Around 75 people participated in the training workshop conducted at the Saksham Kendra, Hisua, Nawada. The training workshop especially focused on the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Participants of the First Block Level Workshop
As mentioned earlier, around 75 people participated in the training workshop. The participants belonged to different backgrounds. Many of the participants were those Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) from Hisua Block who did not participate in the first workshop held on 1st August. The rest of participants were members of the local communities and some of them were also parents or caregivers of persons with disabilities. The workshop had a fair representation of participants belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Resource Persons for the Workshop

All the resource persons for this workshop were from the Saksham Kendra, Hisua, Nawada. Ms. Upma Rani, District Program Manager, and Dr. Raajita Kumari, Senior Physiotherapist, took the lead in conducting the workshop. The Saksham Kendra is a flagship initiative by the Government of
Bihar to provide medical and programmatic support to persons with disabilities and ultra-poor, targeting mainly SC and ST communities. These resource persons have vast experience of working with persons with disabilities and are well-trained to provide medical and programmatic support to them as well as their parents and caregivers.
